Wheriko: to flash, glitter, sparkle, twinkle, gleam, glisten and dazzle!

Kate Revell —

Yesterday, the year 7/8's stepped inside Wheriko for the first time in nearly two terms. Teachers and students alike are loving the newly renovated space. Whilst there are still a lot of boxes to unpack, shelving units to construct, and new furniture to arrive, the atmosphere is positive, calm and highly conducive to learning. Take a sneak peek into Wheriko!

Here is what the teachers and some of the students have to say:

Mr. Russell: I am astonished by the calmness of the environment. It is peaceful and tranquil, and I am very impressed at how the ākonga are all engaged in their learning.

Miss Revell: Wheriko is a fantastic teaching and learning environment. I'm not sure who loves it more... the students or me! The acoustics are amazing, and the light, collaborative space is bringing out the best in everyone.

Miss L: I like that the whole syndicate is together; it's great being able to interact with students from all year 7/8 classes and see the students doing the same.

Miss Green: it's been refreshing, inspiring and I think the change has filled the staff and students with positive energy. We're really enjoying the connectedness.

Mr. Aligizakis: I am enjoying the airiness, the sun-filled rooms, the atmosphere and the beautiful smiling faces that are greeting me each morning.

Sky: I like how it's so big; I can both relax and do work better than before.

Srisan: It's very roomy. If you don't like the zone that you're working in you can go to the Chill Zone and relax!

Senara: I like the amount of light that comes in with the glass doors. However, it does smell of feet. I hope that people become more conscious of their feet and improve their feet hygiene!

Ollie: It's great that new furniture is going to come soon. However, I really like how we get to keep our old chairs as they are more comfortable than the ones in Auahiroa. They are less slidey and a lot more robust. I also really like the way the school's logo is engraved on the doors/glass - it looks very fancy!

The year 7/8 team looks forward to inviting you to see the new space in person soon!
