Our Cultural Celebration Evening
A few weeks ago some of our children performed at our cultural celebration. It was a fantastic evening, check out some of the photos!
The culture celebration was a lovely evening and it allowed us to showcase some of the different talents and cultures we have at our school. There was Indian dance, Jump Jam, ukulele, piano, violin, Junior Kapa Haka, Chinese dance, Samoan dance group, taekwondo and a shared supper at the end.
Throughout the night we had fun watching and listening to the different performances. We were so glad that we could show our parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, siblings and friends what we have been practising for so long. We hope you enjoyed the performances if you came along. Merrin school has over 30 different cultures and we hope to have more shows to share all of these in the future.
After the performances, one of our teachers Miss Ditta and her cousin Nadia did some Indian Henna artwork on our hands. This is also known as ‘mehndi’ in Hindi/Urdu.
Henna is a small flowering shrub that has many uses. Leaves are dried and then turned into a fine powder that's used to create beautiful designs on the hands. There
was a really long line because everyone wanted to get it done.
We really enjoyed test tasting all of the yummy foods and we are looking forward to the next one.
