Week 6 Weekly Update
Another busy but short week has been had in Tuakana Whetu with Speeches, Technology and Passion Projects.
Kia ora whanau,
Speeches
Tuakana Whetu had several choices of speech topics to choose from including 'my perfect holiday' to 'why having a pet makes us a better person' and many more. Speeches were suppose to be 3-4 minutes so the audience doesn't get bored, but is still informational. Year 7-8 have to write speeches and put them on cue cards where they read it out to an audience, with the best being the ones that fully memorised their speech. A speech consists of an introduction, a body consisting of 3 long paragraphs or 5-6 short ones and a conclusion which wraps it up.
If you were aiming to get in the finals you had to make eye contact with the audience, speak with clarity, use hand gestures and hold the audience's attention. Many felt nervous and didn't want to read it out in fear of being embarrassed, however everyone conquered their fears and did really well.

Technology
At Technology in cooking class we cook a variety of food, learn about food waste and keeping our environment clean. Every Wednesday we cook something different and don’t stick to the same project like every other class. At the end every of class the teacher takes what we cooked in the class, uploads the recipe of the food we did in that lesson and uploads it to Kirkwood School's blog. If you would like to see the recipes that we make at technology for yourselves, click the link below. Also check out the other projects students have been working on in the photos below.
