The start of Term 4 in Mahuta
The first two weeks in Mahuta have been really busy with lots of exciting things going on!
Swim Safety by Ryan S and Cooper O: Over the last two weeks we have been going swimming. In the first week we worked on our technique, we also worked on freestyle, backstroke and streamline. In the second week we did water safety. Some of the things included learning how to get off a boat safely and how to get under a boat safely. We learnt that you should stay on your back when you are wearing a lifejacket to kick because if you were on your front you would have your face in the water. On the last day we learnt how to take your clothes off in the water and how to stay safe in currents. Overall we all had a great time and we hope to do it again.
Writing pieces about Swimming:
The rapid tornadoes blew me away. My hand cut through the water life a knife making only a tiny sound. The water was cold making me shiver, rapidly gliding like an eagle. - By Felix C and Jiho
As I hopped in the ice cold water I shiver, I slowly start swimming progressively getting faster. - By Marcus and Tani
As the water splashes in my face, I kick as hard as I could to get to the other side. I run so fast around and around trying to make a whirlpool, suddenly 3...2....1...I lie on my back. - By Juliet and Krystal

Water splashing loudly
While people freeze to ice
Tiny ripples come to life
The drops magnetise to the water
While water escapes from the jail - By Jack and James G
Whirlpool
We start to form two circles,
All round and round and round
And after the command
We start to spin around - By Maya R and Shoka
Problem solving in Maths by Seika and Ness - This week we have been doing problem solving in the morning with a buddy, we did a rice chess board which is a chess board that has one grain on the first square, two grains on the second square, four grains on the third square, and so on. We have been doing this to teach us to work as a team. These problems take us a day or more.
TK Challenges: The students have been sharing some of their cultures for part of their TK challenges. We have been learning about special Chinese, Korean and Japanese traditions.
