Mt Hutt - Ski Trip - Erika Jefferies
I was privileged again this year to escape from my office and accompany the Year 7 & 8’s on their annual ski trip.
Travelling up there is the start of the adventure for the day, I sat opposite Mauly and she was stunned by the vista and it reminds you of just how much we take our stunning country for granted.
Fitting the children out with gear is always a challenge as they try to squeeze themselves into boots that really don’t feel that comfortable. We then hit the slopes and the children are marshalled off into groups of abilities for lessons.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as kind to us this year and a blustery wind put the chairlift on hold for most of the morning. This gave all the children a chance to refresh what they knew and those with the ability to head up the chairlift in the afternoon.
It is always great to witness the development of all the children during the day as they master the co-ordination and balance that is required to stay up.
You can see children who may not necessarily be sporty build confidence as skiing provides feelings of accomplishment and exhilaration. Tired bodies get back on the bus at the end of the day with huge smiles and a sense of pride in themselves with what they have achieved.
The bus ride home is always so much quieter than the journey up there.
Roll on next year!
