Action Stations - Investigations that Build a Community of Young Learners.

Toni Germon —

Action Stations has now been implemented across all Junior Stars classrooms.  This inspiring programme has been the outcome of many years of action research by our very own Laetitia de Vries and nurtures children's curiosity for learning.

The Action Stations programme is designed to be practical, versatile and engaging for all learners.  Its unique holistic approach caters for individual needs and learning styles while acknowledging the emotions that go with learning something new.

From the moment students arrive in the morning they can choose a station they wish to work at.  There can only be three people at each station so the children need to learn to plan, make decisions, negotiate and manage themselves.  Teachers help students to identify their goals and to consider options for achieving them.

At the end of the session, students share and reflect on what they have been doing and learning.  This is an opportunity for children to learn from each other and to develop language skills.

Action Stations helps students understand the learning process needed for successful life-long learning.
