Learning Support 2015

This year we have had one  learning support co-ordinator, five full time teacher aides, two part time teacher aides, three part-time specialist teachers and sixty four students receiving support in the programme. 

We have had a social worker working in our school through the North West Cluster and a private speech therapist working with students from Merrin School.  Twenty four students have been on collaborative action plans where the co-ordinator, teachers, parents and support agencies met each term to celebrate the students successes and plan the next steps in learning and behaviour. Having regular Collaborative Action Plan meetings means that everyone feels they are valued. These meetings are a platform for everyone’s concerns and ideas to be heard. The professionals provide invaluable  advice and guidance. 

The advantages of the Learning Support Programmes are not just the successes the students have in Literacy and Numeracy but it is also the wonderful relationships that develop between the students, parents, teachers and their support workers. It is these relationships that help our tamariki be successful learners.
