Year 5/6 Skull art in time for Day of the Dead
We have been learning about a lot of different art styles and Room 14 were lucky enough to learn about the art of José Guadalupe Posada and Mexican skull art.
This coincided with the celebration of Día de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead in Mexico (observed as All Hallow's Eve, All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in Christian culture, or Halloween).
Skull art is a way for Mexicans to celebrate the dead. In Room 14 we decorated a skull and then chose things that we think about a lot and had images of these coming out of the top of our skulls. It was lots of fun.
We will have these hanging in our classroom.
Samuel: "We got to draw the things that we think about a lot."
Isabella: "I liked that we got to draw things that we like, like hamsters, art and books."
Mia: "I liked that it was colourful and like pop art."
Eleanor: "I liked that we could trace our pictures and it made them look really professional."
Lachlan: "I liked that I got to put a lot of effort into drawing Jonah Lomu. I really like how it turned out."
