Creating connections with our community!

Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about healthy snacks as part of a rotation within the syndicate. We looked at the healthy heart visual food guide from the Heart Foundation. Students before brainstorming ideas for healthy snack options. Once we had completed the learning in the classroom, we walked to Countdown Avonhead and were greeted by Andrew, manager of produce. Andrew spoke to the students about Countdown and the produce area. After speaking and supplying the students with either tamarillos, pineapple, or persimmons, or kiwifruit, students were given a budget of $7 to shop for healthy snacks that could be eaten over a week. At the conclusion of the shopping exercise, students were given a free piece of fruit.

We would like to thank Andrew and the staff of Countdown for supporting our learning programme.
