Poetry and Design in Wheriko
Written by Loretta - For the past two weeks, we have been crafting together some creative free-verse poetry.
On one of the days, Robinne and Miss Green lead us on a journey strolling along the path, quietly admiring the whooshing leaves and shaking branches. We walked to the side of the new library, and then sat there for a while, listening to the sound of the leaves whistling. Then we lay down underneath the willow tree, watching the leaves and branches swirl above us. Robinne energetically recited a poem about poetry, describing the many ways the words can twist and intertwine together, creating loops and braids of lyrical stories. Then we went back inside, with new ideas for what to write and how to write it.
Day
The moon sets,
Falling over the horizon.
The sky is red,
Fading into blue.
Clouds burst from nothingness,
Soft tufts dancing in the wind.
The animals come,
Barking and yelping.
The shadows hide,
Cowering from the sun.
The plains flood with life,
Flushing out the last threads of night.
Day has dawned,
And all recognise that.
As man comes out,
From his small world.
All goes silent,
And all goes still.
Then man speaks,
And the world continues.
The sun hastens,
A golden chariot across the sky.
Finally,
It reaches the horizon, and the darkness picks up.
And as the last threads of daylight fades,
The moon rises.
Casting an eerie shadow,
Blanketing the world in white.

Ombrophobia
Sheets of rain,
A deluge, tearing down from the sky,
Soaking the streets and the roads,
The pavement slick with water.
Silence is a forgotten memory,
All you can hear now is the hammering,
The thunderous roar of rain, screaming down,
Yelling until hoarse.
But will it ever stop?
It’s trickling down your window now,
Leaking down the glass.
The droplets splash on the the carpet,
spraying the walls,
pouring,
Thrashing,
Thumping,
Is it the rain, or your heart?
Breath caught in your throat,
The room flooded,
but then you blink,
and it’s gone.
But the rain isn’t.

Reading - Survival Bunkers
One of our reading groups, recently created digital bunkers linked to a text based on conflict in survival situations. Liam created his own bunker environment using Tinkercad, and was lucky enough to use his 3D printer at home to replicate a miniature sized version of his design. Fantastic innovation!
