We have an article by Kathy talking about fitting in at Merrin School.

Fitting in Merrin School - Kathy

My name is Kathy and I am a new student at Merrin School. I moved here from Auckland in July.

I had said goodbye to my beautiful friends and place, and now here I am in this strange place with my family along with this violent dog that wants my fingers for lunch. (Turns out she was our new family pet)

After settling in for a week my mom told me I was going back to school, which I hated since before, whenever I moved schools I still had childhood friends to help me fit in but this time I was alone. I knew nobody except this Year 4 girl from across the street whose father had introduced her to my Grandma.

Now on July 20th which was the start of Term 3, when I stepped in the class I wanted to just go home. Luckily everybody at my table was friendly, but I was shy and said nothing like the awkward human being I am. Soon after Wā Whetu when everybody was chatting about their Ako Plan topics and I was just sitting there alone until I heard somebody call my name. I turned around to see a girl with brown glasses staring at me and waving. I thought she was talking to another Kathy, so I turned around to check first before actually heading there, and voila! I made my first friend at Merrin: Ashlin after that things escalated uphill!

I had made new friends fool around with and share my dark humor with, I was also trying my best to do school work correctly. I had soon shared my humor with my classmates and my art for the production props. I joined the Chorus Choir for production (you know, is the ultimate voice cracker in there). Merrin School is fun to learn at since some things were similar to my old school and some other new things which I had quickly adapted to, I think that the Merrin School Staff and Students were kind and nice to befriend. I am really happy to be at Merrin School and not some other school!
