This week we have begun reading our novels for the term. These include some of the following texts; The Chocolate Dog, The One & Only Ivan, Wonder, Fantastic Mr Fox and Matilda.
The Chocolate Dog Novel:
Before we started reading, we thought the novel would be about a girl finding a lost dog and the two of them having adventures together. So far we have read that the family, including Choc Dog are going on a holiday to Sandmouth which is by the sea - so we already know that our prediction was not quite right. Our favourite part was reading that "Choc didn't only have eyes like Maltesters, he'd happily wolf them down too." This simile means that not only is the dog called Chocolate but he also loves chocolate (dogs shouldn't eat chocolate!) Eyes like Maltesers means that his eyes are big and brown. We look forward to reading more about his holiday adventure!
Collaboratively written by Vesper, Yolanda, Nicole M, Elisha, Molly, Tessa, Georgia and Eva
The One & Only Ivan Novel:
Ivan is the main character in this novel and he is a gorilla. He lives in domain which is a cage reinforced by glass inside a mall. Ivan has not seen another gorilla for 9855 days. His best friends are Stella the elephant and Bob is the dog. They also live inside the mall with him. Stella has to perform tricks for large audiences. This novel is based on a true story and the theme of this novel is animal cruelty. We hope in this story that Ivan will find freedom and meet another gorilla!
Collaboratively written by Maniah, Ali, Emily, Joshua, Suhanna, Troy and Jackson
Wonder
August Pullman is a child who just wants to be ordinary but suffers from a facial disfiguration due to many surgeries. He is about to start Year 5 at school and is dreading it because of what other kids may think. Luckily August manages to find some nice friends who stick up for him and protect him at school. We really hope that August has a really good year.
Collaboratively written by Esther, Akki, Matthew, August, Oliver D, Chloe, Ava and Thomas M
Fantastic Mr Fox
Mr Fox is a cunning Fox who does not know right from wrong. He uses most of his time sneaking around to steal food for his family. Three Farmers have had enough of Mr Foxes antics and devise a plan to capture Mr Fox so he can no longer steal food from the farmers ever again. We predict that Mr Fox will eventually get caught by the Farmers and be held captive. We really hope that Mr fox learns a lesson!
Collaboratively written by Kallum, Victor, Kadmeil, Kouta, Lakshay, Jaecob V, Jacob F, Ian and Oliver H
Matilda
Matilda is an intelligent child who loves to read books. Matilda is very bright for her age and managed to read all the books in the children's library when she was only 4! Unfortunately Matilda has parents who believe that reading is a waste of time and that she should rather use her time watching TV! Her Father (Mr Wormwood) is also a crook and sells dodgy second hand cars to people. We really hope that Mr Wormwood gets caught and that Matilda has a happy ending!
Collaboratively written by Angela, Nikki W, Lucy, Madi, Taylor a and Ary
We look forward to seeing what the children take away from their novel learning!
