Kōpura - getting to know each other

It's been an exciting time here in Kōpura as we dive into the new term with enthusiasm and a lot of fun-filled activities.
by Toni Carter

We want to express how much we love having your children in our learning spaces. It's been an absolute delight getting to know everyone, hearing about their holiday adventures, and sharing stories that have made us laugh and enjoy being together.

We've kicked off our exploration of statistics! Students are diving into numbers, learning to collect and interpret data and discovering graphs and charts. It's been wonderful to see their curiosity and mathematical minds at work. Our guided reading sessions are in full swing! We're exploring books, discussing characters, unravelling plots, and expanding our vocabulary. Their joy of reading is evident.

Writing is our daily adventure. We have been writing imaginative stories and showing their teachers what they love to write about. We're amazed by their creativity and the unique stories they share with us. In today's digital age, being a good digital citizen is more important than ever. We have also been focusing on learning about responsible online behaviour and protecting our digital footprint. We've been playing awesome collaborative games during our PE sessions. These get our bodies moving and strengthen teamwork and communication skills, and the children make some new friends.

Next week is our passion week; we are making and creating. This is an engaging and exciting week to kick-start the year of new learning possibilities. We are looking forward to an exciting term.

PTA News

The PTA has had it's first meeting for the year, and we have some exciting things on the radar ...
by Sarah-Jane Haywood

It is our mission as a PTA to support the school, and help foster a great sense of connection within our wider school community. We do this in a variety of ways such as fundraising eg. sausage sizzles, second hand uniform stop, running events such as the recent quiz night, and physically being there to support staff where and when we can. And we have a lot of fun doing it.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, or you would just like to find out more, come along to a meeting, or contact pta@merrin.school.nz

Joining the PTA is a great way to meet other families, make some new friends and support our Merrin whetū Kohara (shining stars). If you are new to Merrin School or think that you have some time to support the school this year, we would love to see you.

Our next PTA meeting is on Monday 11th March at 7pm, in the staffroom (by the office). Come and check it out and meet some of the amazing people that are involved. This meeting is our AGM and we have some important roles becoming available that might interest you, that of secretary and treasurer. We would love to see some new faces

Change of date: Our first Sausage Sizzle of the year has been moved to Friday 23rd February due to the Yr 7/8 Amazing Race taking place this Friday. Many apologies for the change. We will be selling yummy sausages for $2 each. (No cookies this time round). Orders will be taken before school on Friday (from 8.30am), Sausages are then cooked during the morning and are ready for students to enjoy at lunchtime.
