Whetū Kohara - Shining Stars - we want our Merrin stars to shine as brightly as possible. Our vision is for all tamariki to shine, by purposefully providing a learning environment that nurtures, and grows every child. We want our students to have the self belief, skills and competencies to believe that anything and everything is possible.
Merrin School has 500 students from Year One to Year Eight. We are proud of our school and the successes and accomplishments of our students.
At Merrin we are incredibly privileged to have students from a wide range of cultures attending our school. We believe that this helps to make Merrin the rich and vibrant learning place that it is.
Our vision is for all tamariki to shine, by purposefully providing a learning environment that nurtures, and grows every child. We want our students to have the self belief, skills and competencies to believe that anything and everything is possible.
Our school’s motto, Whetū Kohara (Shining stars) depicts the image of a star shining brightly, as brightly as it can. Our tamariki (children) are at the heart of this star. They are at the centre of our school.
All stars are different from one another, all are unique and treasured. At times stars flicker and need extra support to shine, some shine more brightly than others at different times, some are larger, some are smaller, but all are very important to the combined strength of the night sky.
Our values underpin everything we do at Merrin. These are:
Whanaungatanga - Relationships - We build and nurture bonds that connect us. We believe that we all grow and reach personal excellence when we have strong partnerships.
Manaakitanga - Respect - We are respectful and kind. We believe that care, compassion and nurturing play a pivotal role in the well being and achievement of all.
Kaitiakitanga - Guardianship - We actively protect our taonga for the future. We believe that we have a collective responsibility to care and protect our taonga now and forever.
Rangatiratanga - Leadership - We lead with mana. We believe that we must all model and action the values that underpin our kura.
Ako - Limitless Learning - We believe that powerful learning occurs when our values, beliefs and principles are firmly embedded within effective pedagogy and that we are all learners.
I welcome the opportunity to meet with you, show you around our school and answer your questions.
