Y1/2 Kaitiakitanga at Halswell Quarry

by Jeni Bargh

The Year 1 and 2 classes visited Halswell Quarry to enjoy the 'Junior Park Explorers' programme. Celia and Tracey from the Christchurch City Council discussed native birds, seed dispersal, pollination and decomposition. The children especially enjoyed hunting for insects amongst the rotting logs. Fabulous parent help thank you.

Book Week in Year 1 and 2

by Susan Perring

Hinoki delighted in being a tuatara for our dress-up day for Book Week. It was great to see so many children going to the effort to be a real book character, and also donate books. During the event, children were able to visit the Scholastic Book Fair and purchase books and stationery items. There was an opportunity for the teachers to swap classes and read the story from which their character had come from. Due to the weather, the parade had to be adapted to a moment of glory on stage in the hall. Thank you to all the tuakanas who helped our year group manage this.

Last weekend four of our Merrin teams participated in the annual Rainbow Netball Tournament. It was a great day had by all!

by Laura Della Bosca

The four teams that entered into the tournament were the Year 3/4 Merrin Magicians, Year 4 Merrin Magic, Year 5 Merrin Muppets and the Year 6 Colourful Merrin. Each team played 6 games during the day with everyone’s skills improving throughout the day. There were also lots of smiles! The tournament was all about how many goals you could get. Each team got a different coloured wristband depending on how many goals they managed to get. At the end of the day, there was a best-dressed award for each grade. The Merrin Magicians and Colourful Merrin team were awarded first place in their grades! They both won flip out vouchers for their whole team, guess their team break up is sorted! The teams were coached by four Year eight students and four past Merrin Students. It is so fantastic to see them giving back to the Merrin club and giving up their time to pass on their netball skills. Thank you to all the managers and helpers for making the day happen. Also, thank you to our awesome sideline supporters!
