Let’s Stand Up for the Ocean

Christian World Services —

For centuries Indian fish workers have made a living from the sea but now they are facing challenges from every direction.

Many have been forced to move inland to make way for huge power plants and large-scale industries like shrimp farms. Understandably most coastal people want to stay close to the sea and support their families.

CWS partner the Legal Aid to Women Trust is part of a network that campaigns for the coast. Fish workers gather data to use in legal hearings. Their leaders make the case for the ocean and the people who depend on it for their survival.

Let’s Stand up for the Ocean tells how Muthamizh selvi and other women like her are learning new skills and starting small businesses on the edge of the climate crisis in the hope they can survive. Your gifts to the Ocean Appeal will help them find new livelihoods and campaign for the sea, the source of life.
