Doreen Lennox —

This month we say thank you to the Tongan children at St John’s Methodist in Hamilton for sharing with us what they did on Fakame (Children’s Day).

Fakame is celebrated on the first Sunday in May. It is a special day for children and is also the start of family month.

At the morning service the children recited Bible verses they had learnt and sang hymns. After a celebration lunch they acted short plays about the colours in the Bible. These included the colour red for the blood of Jesus and green for life.

Title: Elastic Island Adventures - Rarotonga

Author: Karen McMillan

Publisher: Pacific Resort

Kiri, Jed and the twins, Emma and Ethan are off on their adventures once again, this time to Rarotonga. Together with Blong the cat and Heathcliff the dog they are hoping for a lovely, relaxed adventure. But it is not to be.

To start with there is an annoying gecko in their room and then all the black pearls on the island are stolen. Can they help the wise Mana Tiaki find them?

This is an exciting story for older children. And adults! I really enjoyed it.
