Waitakere Parish Celebrate Candlelight Service

On 8 December, the Waitakere Methodist Parish held an ecumenical candlelight service at Glen Eden Methodist Church.

Rev Augusten Subhan, the parish superintendent, organised the event and clergy from across the Auckland Methodist District participated.

Clergy from other denominational churches in Glen Eden had also accepted his invitation to be involved, notably, Rev George Penk, who is serving at St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Glen Eden and, as a boy, attended Sunday School at Glen Eden Methodist.

Superintendent of the Auckland Methodist Synod , Rev Uesifili Unasa was the preacher.  His subject was “Saying yes to God” – as Mary said “Yes” when the angel told her she was to bear God’s son.  Susan Unasa, on the piano, and Rev Robyn Allen Goudge, on her harp, led the carol singing.  Musical highlights included harpist Rev Robyn singing a solo. and Glen Eden’s Samoan Choir singing O Holy Night

Following the service, supper was served in the church lounge, and a time of fellowship was enjoyed by all.
