Wisteria in bloom. by Christrina Morunga

Flourishing with Faith in God

“These flowers haven’t bloomed since we first moved in,” I said to a friend recently in conversation.

It was a timely sign that my first year at university living in halls of residence, is coming to an end and the comment made me realise just how fast life goes by. More importantly, it helped me to reflect on how much I’ve grown this year. I don’t think this would have been possible if God wasn’t by my side.

Psalm 92;12-14 says: The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green. This verse beautifully embodies what I was feeling.

Life is hectic and time flies by but when we plant our roots in God’s word and salvation we can look and see that god is always with us helping us to grow into the best people we can be. Even through the ups and downs God is with us and allows us to bloom. The flowers referred to in our conversation above were Wisteria. They have rich purple blooms that cover the whole tree. They are said to be ‘very vigorous plants’ and survive in many conditions. Just like us with God.

This year I was completely out of my usual soil but through trusting in the Lord and the parable in the gospel when you plant your seed on the good soil you will produce a good crop, I know that God is someone we can trust and lean on no matter what situation we find ourselves in. By putting our faith in God, we can grow into the beautiful creation that we are meant to be.
