Happy New Year

Welcome to a New Year. Most of you will be back at school when you read this. I hope you all had a happy Christmas with your family and friends.

During the holidays, the children at St John’s have been thinking about the words on the Advent candles; Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. They came up with some thoughts using these words including hoping for peace in the world this New Year and what joy it would bring to everyone if we could do what Jesus said and love one another.

Book Review

Title: Faelen the Wolf – Odd Wolf Out

Author: Juliette MacIver

Publisher: Scholastic, New Zealand, 2024

This is the first book in a series about Faelen, the wolf who is the odd one out in his clan. Have you ever heard of a wolf who plays the harp, drinks tea and is vegetarian? Not only that, but his best friend is a skunk!

Trouble is brewing as a rival pack, led by Varg, is not happy with their hunting ground. Bardolph, the leader of Faelen’s pack, is old and sick and Tala his daughter is worried for her father and the pack. When she asks Faelen to go on a dangerous mission he is torn between safety and finding out about his past.

I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in the series.
