Canterbury Schools Programming Competition

MGS —

The competition involves solving programming problems, with a range of difficulties, over three hours. Hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University on Saturday 27th June, there were eight schools with a total of 29 teams, approximately 80 students.

We had three teams representing Middleton Grange School. From Year 12 were Diane Kim, Jung Woo Yi, and Finn Wescombe. From Year 13: James Wilson, Joshua Allan, and Benjie Cummins in one team and Reinhard Woltersdorf and Matthew Hitchens in another.

The competition was eventually won by Christ’s College, with Cashmere High second and St Andrew’s College third. Our Year 13 teams came in a very respectable 8th and 9th with the Year 12s, who were all first-timers to the competition, finishing in the middle of the field at 15th. We can feel very blessed as a school to have excellent programmers with the ability to compete with the best in Canterbury.
