International Antarctic Centre Visits

MGS —

Over the course of two days, the Year 3 and 4 students visited the International Antarctic Centre as part of their immersion into a topic on 'Explorers'. They observed 'feeding time' for the current blue penguin inhabitants, all of which are in permanent convalescence at the centre due to injuries sustained in their natural environment.

Students engaged in discussions that covered why Antarctica exploration was, and still is, covered by many nations. In addition, the effects of climate change on this fragile environment was graphically illustrated. The loss of which, would impact, not least on the immediate inhabitants of Antarctica but also the wider world as sea levels rise.
