MGS —

The 1st XI Boys have had a tremendous Term 2, and claimed a spot at Nationals for the top 32 teams in country, along with four other Christchurch schools. In the final match before the qualification period ended, the boys had a must win match against Burnside. Mid way through the second half the boys trailed 3-1, but they finished the match in scintillating style, scoring two goals to tie the match before captain Edward Billcliff buried the winner with two minutes remaining to send the small but vocal crowd into a frenzy. Nationals is in Napier at the end of August. A fantastic effort from the boys, and coaching staff Peter Carr & Brent Billcliff along with manager Isaac Stanton.

The 1st XI Girls have also had a Term 2 to remember, winning five matches to remain unbeaten, in between a number of rained off matches. The girls are heading away to Blenheim for tournament week next term.

Ex-student Marisa van der Meer has been named in the NZ Olympic Football team which heads to Tokyo shortly. Marisa was initially selected as one of four reserves, but new rules just for these Olympics allow reserves to be part of the main squad. This is an awesome achievement and we wish Marisa and the team all the best in Tokyo.
