James Caughley receives High Honour at National Shakespeare Festival

MGS —

You might remember James Caughley...

...as ‘Cogsworth’ from the MGS 2018 production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, or as a ‘Drama Geek’ from ‘High School Musical’, or from the Crescendos, PERCO Music or the Jazz Band.

Yes, James is a well-known figure in the Performing Arts community here at Middleton Grange. But, what you may not is that recently he was selected to join SGCNZ’s National Shakespeare Schools Production Company (NSSP).

Congratulations James!

NSSP is a week-long, residential, intensive course, studying aspects of Shakespeare’s works and three of his plays, in particular, under the direction of leading directors.

High calibre tutors take workshops with the whole group for half of each day. For the other half, the students, in three groups, will rehearse with a Director. These rehearsals will culminate in a public performance of scenes from the play each cast has studied. Other experiences of a dramatic nature will also be added into the schedule!

In the September/October school holidays, James will return to Wellington to meet with the other 40 members of the company and begin a journey that may well culminate in his selection to travel to England to experience performing on the stage of the Globe Theatre London.

James is a very talented actor and it is exciting to see his skills being recognized and developed at a national and possibly international level.
