Athletics - Canterbury Champs 2018 and South Island Champs 2018

MGS —

On Saturday 17th March 2018... 15 Athletes took part in the 2018 Canterbury Champs, competing in 30 Events - 23 Track Events - 7 Field Events.  16 ‘Medals’ (1st, 2nd and 3rd) we won by our athletes, automatically qualifying for 19 events at the South Island Championships with a further 5 probables.

Fia Laikong’s (Polyfest) pre-lim Long Jump distance would have seen her win by 24 cm’s, her Discus win was 8m further than the 2nd placed girl and her (Polyfest) pre-lim Discus throw would have placed her 4th in the Finals.

On Friday 23rd March 2018... our team of nine athletes headed to Timaru for the South Island Champs, a week after strong performances at the Canterbury Champs. Gloria Agnew continued her fine form in 2018, picking up three silver medals (100m, 200m, Long Jump), while Zinan Bennett took out the 300m hurdles (as the only competitor), and followed this up with a bronze in the 400m. Fia Laikong was also amongst the medals, second in Discus and third in the 80m hurdles. Our young guns Levi Ferguson (2nd High Jump) and Folau Havea (3rd 80m Hurdles) also picked up medals to complete a solid haul for Middleton Grange.

See documents below for results of our pupils in both competitions.
