Canterbury Schools Programming Competition

MGS —

This is an annual competition between local schools where the keenest programmers work in teams to solve a range of computing problems. Hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University on Saturday 3rd July, this year there were 112 students from 15 schools.

We had four teams representing Middleton: Nathan Smith, Jack Andrews, and Tina Qian from Year 11, Sammy Cummins, Jono Schwass, Wen-Qi Toh, Thanh Do, and Tuan Luong from Year 12, and Diane Kim, Finn Wescombe, and Jung Woo Yi from Year 13.

Altogether there were 39 teams in the competition which was eventually won by Burnside. However, our Year 11 team came in at a very respectable 6th place, higher in the rankings than many other more senior and experienced teams, including our own Year 13s who were 15th. Our Year 12s finished a little lower down the field, but they all did remarkably well.

We continue to be blessed as a school in having such excellent programmers, with the ability to compete with the best in our region.
