Middleton Grange School Nationals Athletics Team

MGS —

6th to 8th December – Newtown Athletics Stadium, Wellington

On Friday morning, 6th December, eight of our top Athletes travelled to Wellington to compete in New Zealand School’s premier Athletics Competition. Our team were competing in fourteen events over the three-day period.

Our best results were:

Zinan Bennett – Silver Medal in Senior Boys 300 m Hurdles (also his PB)

Levi Ferguson – Bronze Medal in Junior Boys High Jump

Jasmine Prince had a very successful competition, making the semi-finals in both the Senior Girls 100m and 200m races.

Tristan Bennett was competing in the Senior Boys grade as a Year 11, so coming a credible 16th place in High Jump will stand him in good stead over the next two years in the same grade.

Luke Mitchell ran a strong race in the Senior Boys 3000m, coming 6th in the semi-final, but that was just not enough to qualify for the final. Ironically his time in that semi, would have placed him 12th out of the field of 16 in the final. Unfortunately, his favoured 6 Km Road Race event was called off due to the extreme weather conditions.

Caspar Joseph had his first taste of nationals Athletics and ended 18th in the Junior Boys Javelin.

Gloria Agnew brought her stellar school’s Athletics career to an end and so to Zinan Bennett, Anna Malin and Jasmine Prince. We thank them for their service to Athletics and MGS and for the excellent example they have set for our younger Athletes.

A big thank you also to Jamie Bennett for all the parent support.
