Canterbury Year 9 Readers’ Cup Competition
On Monday night...
...our team (Austin Posthuma, Cohen Monk, Jess Xu and Kaelan Tseng) competed valiantly at the Canterbury Year 9 Readers’ Cup competition at Tūranga Library. Readers’ Cup is an annual inter-school competition similar to Cantamath, where students read the same six books weeks in advance, meeting up regularly to discuss and pore over the details in each one. When the evening arrives, their reading comprehension and memory skills are put to the test as they answer questions about the books round by round.
This year’s Canterbury regional competition was the largest yet, with 14 schools from Ashburton to Kaikoura competing for just one spot in the nationals. Our team came a respectable ninth place amongst fierce competition.
It is always fantastic to celebrate the joy of reading – take a look at the turnout in the photos.
