Computer Programming – ANZAC and NZ Competitions

MGS —

The Year 11 Computer Science class is very fortunate to have two very keen and talented programmers this year. Nathan Smith and Jack Andrews went on from representing Middleton Grange School in the Canterbury Schools programming contest in July to further represent Middleton Grange School, firstly in the ANZAC competition – on 28th August, and then in the NZ programming contest on the 11th September.

The boys did remarkably well considering they were up against University teams, as well as professional programmers. In spite of being the ONLY high school team in the ANZAC competition, they acquitted themselves well, beating 25% of the competition. In the NZ competition, where there was a high school division, they finished in the middle of the field of 32 schools represented. We can look forward to watching these boys’ achievements as they continue to develop their programming skills over the next couple of years.
