Year 7/8 STEM - What we've been up to!

MGS —

This year in Year 7/8 technology we have introduced STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) course to the programme. To summarise it all simply, its mainly a hands on course that challenges students to think outside of the box to solve real world problems by coming up with solutions that they think will work using a variety of equipment provided. An example of this can be seen in the photos attached.

One of the tasks that the Year 7 class have recently completed was based on a fire engine scenario. They needed to use the EPRO8 box (containing aluminium rods, axles, wheels, pullies, screws/wingnuts etc) to move their created fire engine forward / backwards, and to be able to move their fire engine ladder up and down easily using axles and pullies. This was one of the initial tasks they were asked to do to develop confidence in their ability to manipulate the equipment provided into something that solves the problem given to them!

Students are having a lot of fun in this course. I want to put a shout out to James Harris for the initial time he put into setting up the course at the back end of 2020. You’re a legend!
