Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub – 9th and 10th April 2021

The final Athletics event for this season, started well on Friday, with most of our qualifying for their respective finals on the Saturday. We had a large team of twenty-seven Athletes competing in this prestigious event.

Saturday started with rain and then a strong wind blew for the rest of the day, but our Athletes competed with great heart and determination. Some of our best results were;

Sam Manson winning his Para 400m and Long Jump events and coming second in the Shot Put and Discus.

Winnie Palamo gained two very good second places in the Senior Girls’ Long and 100m Hurdles and a third place in her 100m sprint.

Mieke Hunt had a busy weekend, gaining third in High Jump, third in Relay, fourth in 80m Hurdles and sixth in her 100m sprint.

An ‘unexpected’ highlight was our under 16 Boys Relay team coming second after some excellent baton changes and a very good finishing sprint by Aston Smith.

Having four Relay Teams in the SI Final and our Under 15 Girls’ Team ending third.

One of our young athletes to watch is certainly Tahlia Pellow. She did very well in the Under 14 Girls’ middle distance events.

Thank you to Coach, Judy MacDonald for her time and efforts.
