Primary Cultural Assembly
On Wednesday 4th March...
...the Primary School celebrated the diversity in our school, starting with an assembly. There are children from just over 30 countries, with 23 languages spoken in homes. Pupils sat in the hall in groups that represented the country they most identify with. A lot of parents also joined us and we were glad to share this time with our guests. Our Kapa haka group began with a beautiful waiata, welcoming us to the day. Five pupils prayed a verse each of The Lord's Prayer in one of the languages they speak. Mr Thompson welcomed everyone and we were then treated to the stunning Middleton Grange School Pasifika group. Everyone loved them.
Excitedly pupils waited for the flag parade. Our flag bearers led their group onto the stage and we clapped and cheered as each country walked across the stage. Many pupils had dressed in traditional clothing so the stage was full of colour and smiles. Finishing up with the choir leading us in the National Anthem reminded us that we indeed do sit together as nations underneath God.
We are grateful to International College for giving us flags, Mr Thompson for organising poles and a place for them to hang and to all the parents and teachers who supported us on Cultural Day. We are planning for next year already!
