Year 8 Leadership Week

MGS —

The Year 8's enjoyed...

...a great leadership week recently, learning about 'what makes an effective leader'. We had the opportunity to step outside of comfort zones (literally stepping into the arms of our classmates!), develop trust and grow our understanding of our personal values.

We were blessed to have an engaging speaker from the NZ Army, Major Grieve to begin the week. He inspired us with stories of his adventures with the army. The grit and determination required for the high discipline level and sacrificial mindset was a great challenge to us all.

Integrity and trust were two values that stood out this week. We saw how leaders need to be able to be trustworthy and make good decisions regardless of what others think, standing up for truth even if they stand alone.

We are very grateful for Mrs Malcolm’s patient and enthusiastic presentation. Team activities, discussions and 'fear factor' games were all part of the action-packed week. Our class is well set up for not only a year of exploring individual potential but also laying foundation for a collective culture of young people who are forming strong values of courage, selflessness, and honour. A special thanks to Mrs Malcolm for all her mahi - the students loved it!
