Will Stedman

MGS —

Ex-student William Stedman has secured another two medals at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, following on from his two medals in Rio five years ago.

Will claimed Silver in the T36 Long Jump, with an Oceania Record and personal best at a world event of 5.64m in his final jump of the night that pushed him from 6th to 2nd, improving a huge 18cm and finishing 1cm ahead of third.

"Those last two rounds it was a real mental battle, I was jumping 30cm off my PB, it's not going well, and I gave that last jump everything," Stedman said afterwards.

"I thought it was a bad jump, I thought 'oh man that's it'. I saw that 5.64 flash up on the screen and I was like, woah."

Less than 24 hours later, Will returned to the Athletics track competing in the T36 400m, and he secured his second medal of the games with a strong performance, storming home in the final 100m to claim Bronze.

Will said to the media after his 400m race, “Hard, it felt really hard. I only got probably four hours’ sleep last night, so I felt really tired,”

“The time showed that a little bit, but I'm really happy with how I went, I gave it absolutely everything. I had nothing left at the end of the race. That last 40 metres I was running on empty.”

We congratulation William on a fantastic result, and look forward to seeing him in three years time in Paris!
