A Glimpse at Senior College Student Leadership

MGS —

Now is Selection Season – of options for the following year, but also of student leaders to influence the atmosphere and build school spirit.

For the purpose of demystifying how this all works, let me open the window to the process, which involves and introductory assembly for all of Y12, then 2 “rounds”:

Round 1 – Head and Deputy Head Boys and Girls:

· Nominations are invited from staff and Y12 students

· A short list is drawn up (usually around 8-10 students)

· Staff get to peruse this list and contribute their thoughts

· Interviews are conducted by a panel of current Head Boy and Girl, Y12 Deans, the Principal and the Head of Senior College

· The panel then prays for wisdom and discerns the final 4

Round 2 – Team Leaders:

· Applications are open directly after the initial assembly

· Students are advised to apply for their top 3 ranked positions

· Y12 Deans, Head and Assistant Head of Senior College read, pray and select 2 leaders for each of the teams

Teams are: Academic; Arts (music, drama, dance, visual); Culture; Environment; Hospitality; House Captain; Mission/Service; Sport; Waiora

Last week at Monday’s Senior College assembly, we announced the Head roles.

The Head Boys and Girls for 2022 are:

Head Boy: Mackenzie Hoskins

Head Girl: Izzy Stedman

Deputy Head Boy: Neo Caughtrey

Deputy Head Girl: Madeleine Bakker

Please pray for this team who will carry a significant load next year as they develop a ‘vision’ for their tenure and lead a fine team of young leaders to make a difference at Middleton Grange School.

The Team Leaders will be announced early in Term 4.
