Senior Basketball Boys capture Thomson Trophy
A fantastic night on Tuesday 27 August at Cowles Stadium...
...as the Senior Basketball Boys captured the Thomson Trophy over Cashmere HS, claiming the Canterbury title for the first time since 2015. They led by three points at halftime, before a fast start to the third quarter pushed them to a double figure lead. They kept this lead (and extended it) to lead by 19 at three quarter time, and eventually downed the two time defending champions 85-65. Ben Carlile-Smith was awarded the Finals MVP.
The support for the boys was immense, with two buses travelling with 75 pupils from school, and a huge turnout from current and former pupils, along with a number of staff. Cowles Stadium was packed and the noise was deafening – the coaches struggling to get their comments across to the team all game.
The team now travels to Nelson for the SISS tournament, a qualification tournament for nationals, starting next Wednesday.
