MGS —

Craig Utting

I am delighted to be working at Middleton as Associate Principal. My family and I have lived in Auckland for all our lives prior to starting the new position here in Christchurch. We are looking forward to being able to support a rugby side that wins more than it loses! I have taught in a number of curriculum areas over my career, including, PE, Digital Technologies, Mathematics, however, my passion is in the area of Geography. Previous to my role at Middleton I worked for 16 years as Deputy Principal and then Associate Principal at KingsWay School. KingsWay is very similar to MGS; a Year 1-13 Christian school of 1450 pupils over two sites. I am an advocate for Christian education and have served on the national executive of the Association for Christian Schools NZ for 8 years, 4 of these as chairperson.

I enjoy most sports, including golf, tennis, volleyball and water skiing. I am married to Oline and we have four children. Rebekah (20) is in her third year of primary teacher training and is living in Auckland, as is Timothy (17) who is finishing his schooling in Year 13 at KingsWay in Orewa, north of Auckland. Sam (13) is in Year 9 at MGS, and Rachel (10) is Year 6 this year. As a family we have attended Windsor Park Baptist church for over 30 years and are now looking forward to joining a new church family in Christchurch. I am excited about the opportunity to work at Middleton alongside high calibre educators and leaders. I am looking forward to what God has in store for me and the school throughout 2018.

I am joining Middleton Grange this year as the new Head of Sport. Originally from Auckland, I moved to Christchurch to study Commerce at Lincoln University and have lived her ever since. I grew up as the second of three children, in the middle of an older and younger sister. Our family attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Clevedon, with mum and dad running the Kids Club and then Youth Group. My two sisters are now on the staff at LIFE Church in Auckland.

I’ve played sport ever since I could walk, with cricket in the summer and hockey in the winter being my main focus. Sport has blessed me with many opportunities, and I am excited to work alongside the pupils of Middleton so they too can take advantage of the many opportunities that will be presented to them. Sport, much like the Church, has a great way of connecting people, and I look forward to what God has in store me here at Middleton, along with the awesome young men and women of the school.

Ki a koutou katoa, owha atu. Ko Wharepuhunga te maunga, Waikato te awa, ā, ko Tainui te waka. Ko Hoturoa te whare tīpuna, ko Aotearoa te marae.
