BEBRAS: informatics and computational thinking - 22 March 2018
Started in 2011...
...the Bebras Computing Challenge originated in Holland and now runs in 36 countries. Bebras tests logic and computational skills through different types of fun and challenging problems. It is an initiative aiming to promote Informatics (Computer Science, or Computing) and computational thinking among school pupils at all ages. Last year more than 2 million students participated in the challenge. internationally.
This year at Middleton we had 22 years 7 and 8 pupils who attempted the challenge, as well as 30 from our senior Computer Science classes.
Each participant was given 45 minutes to answer 15 multiple-choice questions that focused on computational and logical thinking. This is the second time Middleton has been represented in the challenge and, like last time, our pupils did very well, with 5 awarded Merit (over 65% correct answers) and a further 6 awarded Distinction for achieving scores of 80% or better.
