Year 7 & 8 Structural Technology

MGS —

Popsicle Stick Structures

The Year 7 and 8 students had fun with popsicle sticks in their structural technology classes in the first trimester. The Year 7's designed and built bridges that needed to hold a load of at least 1kg. All the bridges fulfilled this requirement with some being able to hold more than 4kgs. The Year 8's spent a longer period of time designing and building a tall structure that is at least 50cm tall with the ability to hold a certain lateral force (simulated).

Cardboard Furniture

While the Year 8's spent almost the whole trimester to complete their tall popsicle stick structure, the Year 7's did another project to make furniture out of cardboard (and glue). Some of the furniture that were successfully made are a short stool (that can hold my weight as shown in the photo), an ottoman/footstool (my legs were resting on it), sofa (that can hold a Year 7 student’s weight also shown in the photo), coffee table (shown in the middle of the same photo), a book shelf and a small cabinet.
