Teaching Staff 2019

MGS —

Stephen Anderson

My name is Stephen Anderson and will be teaching Science and Physics at Middleton Grange this year. I am an alumni having attended Middleton in the early 80's and Canterbury University in the 90’s. My family and I have just returned from teaching at an International Christian school in North India. Living in 'flat' Christchurch will require some adjustment, having lived in the Himalayas on a steep 30o hillside at 2000m altitude. I enjoy running and the great outdoors, and am keen to explore the Canterbury high county. Myself and my two children, Petra and Jay, have enjoyed our first weeks at Middleton and are really looking forward to integrating further into the school community.

Kathryn Gibson

Hi, my name is Kathryn Gibson. Term One this year I will be teaching Year 2 in Room 7. Previously I’ve taught Year 7 & 8 students at Kaiapoi Borough, and before that I taught Years 1, 2 and New Entrant at Queenspark School and Ellerslie School in Auckland. My husband, Josh, and I go to Cornerstone Campus Church where we enjoy serving a small Growth Group. I’m originally from Pleasant Point in South Canterbury, but have also lived in Dunedin, London and Auckland. It’s lovely to be back in Canterbury again where I can get my washing dry! I love to read (a lot!), write, perform in plays (when possible) and have been known in the past to do a bit of stand up comedy. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be serving at Middleton Grange. I’m very excited to work in a school that recognizes God’s sovereignty and provides opportunities for us all to learn more about Him.

Jonathan Glover

My name is Jonathan Glover and I will be teaching Visual Art, looking after the Painting department at Middleton Grange School. Before obtaining my Diploma in teaching I was a student for five years at the Fine Arts School, University of Canterbury. I come from a dedicated Christian family and have grown up believing the Word of God to be the absolute truth.

My passion is with the Arts and outside of teaching I maintain my own studio practice as a silkscreen artist. Over the last two years I have had the privilege of working at Christchurch Boys’ High and St Bedes College teaching a mixture of Painting, Printmaking and Photography.

I feel both privileged and blessed teaching here at Middleton Grange and I feel that the Lord has brought me here for a purpose. I look forward to this year and the many challenges that lie ahead with confidence in the Lord’s support and encouragement.

Sharon Gudsell

I will be the Curriculum Leader of Commerce, teaching Accounting and Business Studies at Middleton Grange School. I am a former pupil of Middleton Grange (Years 1 – 13) and I am delighted to be joining the teaching staff. Like most Social Scientists, I love people and places; my favourite books are biographies and I am a keen traveller. My interests include nutrition, netflix, reading, baking and online shopping. I also enjoy hanging out with family and friends and my dog, Lulu.

I will be teaching Chinese as a first year teacher at Middleton Grange this year. I am also qualified to teach ESOL. My was brought up in New Zealand. My son and I have had strong connection within church for many years. I am interested in reading, walking exercise, devotional work. It is a huge privilege to be joining the Middleton Grange School teaching staff. Fiona Lee

Kia Ora! I am delighted to join the English department at Middleton Grange School for 2019. Originally from Dunedin, I've lived in Auckland, France and Cambodia, where I taught at Hope International School, Phnom Penh, from 2016-2018. I enjoy baking, dance and exploring God's awe-inspiring creation in the outdoors of NZ. It is a joy to work at Middleton Grange School, an educational community centered on Christ.

Surin McGrory

Having recently returned to Christchurch after three years overseas, I am excited to have the opportunity to teach ESOL at Middleton. Outside of the classroom I spend much of my time learning foreign languages, swimming, and discussing environmentalism. I love being involved in my church’s international ministry, and having opportunities to serve God cross-culturally."

Dean McKenzie

Hi, my name is Dean McKenzie and I am the new Assistant Director of the International College. Before joining Middleton Grange, I was the Assistant Principal and former Head of Department of Mathematics at St Andrew’s College here in Christchurch. Originally from Taupo, I moved to Christchurch to complete my teacher training in the late 90’s and started work at St Andrew’s College shortly after completing my Teaching Diploma. At University I studied Mathematics which is my real area of expertise, however after finishing my Master of Science degree I travelled to Japan to live for three years, hence my interest in International Education. I have two children, both at Otago University, the youngest is an ex Middleton Grange pupil. My wife is Japanese and therefore I have picked up a bit of the language. This helps greatly with my Church work as I am a committee member of the Japanese Christian Fellowship, which is part of SouthCity C3 on Colombo St. Moving to Middleton Grange was a leap of faith for me, taking on a completely different role however, I felt called to use the skills and experience I had gained over the years and apply them in a Christian Education context. I look forward to how God will use me in the coming years.

Katrina Setacci

My name is Katrina Setacci and I feel very blessed with the opportunity of teaching here at Middleton Grange School in Year 3. I moved to New Zealand in 2016 from Canada to study teaching then began by career at Merrin School in Year 1 and 2. Although my family is overseas, God has placed many close friends and an awesome church family at Majestic into my life here in Christchurch. I enjoy taking dance classes, reading, being in the outdoors, and playing sports. This year I am looking forward to building relationships with staff, students and whanau of the school community.

Jin Song

My name is Jin Song and I am teaching Business and Economics as a first-year teacher. I feel it is a blessing to be able to begin my teaching career here at Middleton Grange School. I am originally from Korea and first came to New Zealand in 2003. Before coming to Christchurch, I only lived in Auckland and I am excited to start my new journey here.

My interests include playing sports, especially football, and musical instruments such as guitar and drums.

I am looking forward to seeing what God has prepared for me at Middleton Grange School this year.
