SISS Junior Volleyball

MGS —

Recently the Junior Volleyball boys...

...travelled to sunny Nelson to compete in the SISS!

We had a great trip up, the boys did plenty of sleeping and listening to their own music. There were plenty of school vans on the road, and although the weather turned and it rained most of the way we arrived to Bridge Valley safely. The boys enjoyed pizza for dinner before we headed into town for the technical meeting and a supermarket shop to round out the day.

We had the first game at (8am Tuesday), so the boys were up early for a 6.30am breakfast and a 7am departure. They were still asleep when the game started at 8am, and quickly found themselves a set down to Nelson College. Coach Caleb got them going, and they won the next two sets to claim victory. A quick trip home for some downtime and lunch, before game two against Marlborough Boys. It was a very tight first set, 25-23 to Marlborough, and they won the second set to win 2-0.

The third and final game of the day was against John McGlashan from Dunedin, and they were a strong side, beating us 2-0. We finished the day with duty, before returning home to Nacho's for dinner.

The boys enjoyed a sleep in the next morning, with our first game not until 11.45am. We again had three games, so another long day at the stadium. The boys were in good spirits, they enjoyed the pool they had at the accommodation, and they always had plenty of energy. Coach Caleb did a great job, and we played Cashmere and St. Andrew's who were teams the boys were very familiar with.

Thursday, from the not so sunny Nelson! The boys were up and at it early, playing in the Div 2 semi final at 8am against Marlborough Boys, looking for a bit of revenge from day 1.

It was a good day and the boys were on fire and won their three games, all in straight sets. They played well and have been in good spirits on and of the court.

The boys arrived home with some extra bling, a bronze medal!

A close semi-final match against Marlborough Boys went all the way to the third set, but the boys just went down. Marlborough went on to win the final.

In the 3rd/4th playoff, the boys flew out of the gates and took the first set quite comfortably. John McGlashan then grabbed all the momentum to win the second set, and send the match to a decider. The third set was close, but the boys dug deep and went on a run to put them into a strong lead, which they maintained and closed out the set and match.

A great way to finish off a great week!
