MGS —

Laura, Marisa, Sofia, Francesca, Doris, Ella, Grace, Mason, Zach, Katie-Jo

Congratulations to Laura Pelvin who competed at PACANZ (Performing Arts Competitions Association of NZ) in Palmerston North last weekend in the troupe section, placing 2nd in the finals. 56 teams were nominated to compete in different genres of dance from around the country for these National competitions and Laura’s team made history by not only being the first tap team to make it to the finals but also the first tap team to place.

Some awesome news, Marisa van der Meer has been selected for the NZ U17 Women’s Football team that will attend the U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay in November. Congratulations Marisa. Full article - http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/newsarticle/69379

Sofia Kennedy was selected for the Junior Tall Ferns team that went to India earlier in the month to compete in the FIBA U18 Asian Championships. This doubles as a qualifier for the U19 World Cup.

Congratulations also to Francesca Harrison on her amazing achievement at the NZ Ballroom and Latin Dance National Championships recently. Francesca competed in the adult section and their placings were 3rd; 4th and 4th in NZ. Although it was NZ Nationals there were many couples from Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, so stiff competition.

Doris Zhang Yr 4 and Ella Zhang Yr 3 have been doing very well in Karate. They have competed in the Otago Primary and Secondary School Karate Competition, representing MGS and also the Otago Championship competition. The girls competed very well and earned themselves five medals each, which makes their training of 3-4 hours per week worthwhile. Congratulations to them both.

On the 18th October 2018 four Middleton Grange School pupils received awards at the Canterbury Basketball 2018 Representative Prizegiving. Grace NeilsoMasn received an award for MVP (Most Valuable Player) for U15 Girls Black team. Mason Murphy received MVP for U15 Boys Black team, Zach Hannen received MIP (Most Improved Player) for U17 Boys Read team and Katie-Jo van den Bogaert received MIP for U17 Girls Black team. Well done to them all.
