2020 Year 9 Readers Cup Competition

MGS —

For the third year running, we entered a team in this Canterbury-wide competition. I really enjoyed our preparation meetings; they were typically loud, animated exchanges about minutiae in one or other of the six texts we were studying. The team spent much of the past couple of months, reading and digesting a variety of genres in readiness for this competition. Their enthusiasm was almost tangible.

This year’s team, consisted of Katelyn Gee, Imogen Lester, Molly Sankey, Jonty Taylor and Jireh Tseng. I was very proud of them all; they were great ambassadors for Middleton Grange School, and while we did not get on to the podium, it was a memorable experience I am sure.

Here are some “last words” from the participants:

Winning is fun …. but reading is better

It was very fun and a great opportunity to extend my reading. I loved participating in it and learning to remember little details.

I loved the opportunity to read 6 Amazing books and loooved getting to work tightly in a group, all giving out our ideas, to come up with our best possible answer.

I really enjoyed working as a team. I got to know the other members of the team better as well. Overall it was a great experience.

It made me think more about taking in the little details of books and was an amazing opportunity.
