Canterbury Schools Programming Competition

MGS —

Middleton had three teams entered in the Canterbury Schools Programming competition on the 29th June.

Representing the school from Year 12 were Benjie Cummins, James Wilson, and Joshua Allan in one team and Matt Hitchens, Reinhard Woltersdorf, and Ivan Roentgen in the other. From Year 13 we had Josh Tasker in his own team of one. The competition was hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University. There were eight schools with a total of 24 teams; approximately 70 students.

The competition involves solving programming problems, with a range of difficulties, over 3 hours. Middleton were defending the title which we won last year. However, in spite of an excellent effort by our representatives, Burnside managed to take home the trophy at the end of the day. Nonetheless, we can feel very blessed as a school to have excellent programmers with the ability to compete with the best in Canterbury. These pupils will get another chance in the NZ national competition coming up in September.
