Canterbury Schools Programming Competition

MGS —

This is an...

...annual competition where the keenest programmers spend the afternoon working in teams to solve a range of computing problems. Hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University on Saturday 24th June, this year there were over 100 secondary aged students involved in the competition.

We had eight students representing Middleton Grange: James Mulholland, Christopher Bower, and Caleb Couperus (Year 11) Thomas Wilson, Sudha Sutaschuto, Andrew Denne, and Joshua Horn (Year 12) and Jack Andrews (Year 13).

The competition was eventually won by Burnside High School, with Lincoln High School in second place. One of our Middleton teams (Jack Andrews, Andrew Denne, Joshua Horn) were placed 3rd. This was a superb effort, considering the calibre of the competitors. Our other teams, although not placed this year, did remarkably well.

We continue to be blessed as a school in having such excellent programming talent and our students’ willingness to compete with the best in our region. There will be other opportunities to compete in similar competitions throughout the year.
