Kids Voting
The Year 5 and 6s were visited by three electoral candidates as part of our “Kids Voting” topic.
Megan Woods, (Labour) David Hiatt (National) and Peter Richardson (Green Party) spent time with us, answering our questions, explaining their party’s policies, and chatting about how and why they got into politics.
We were able to see where the policies were similar and how they differed, along with the priority they gave to the issues that concerned us.
We were able to ask questions about climate change, conservation and the environment, education and health issues, housing and the homeless, refugees and poverty. It was extremely interesting hearing from each of our three guests.
Nearer to the 23rd of September we will each get the opportunity to sign on to ‘our’ electoral roll and cast our vote.
