Trades and Vocational Pathways Expo

MGS —

On 1th August, MGS ran a Trades and Vocational Pathways Expo for the Christian School Network for over 250 students. They heard about the new funding for all apprenticeships, and many certificates and diplomas, skills shortages and where Christchurch is heading. Students met in the Grange to hear from a range of speakers in the industry about what their career pathways looked like. Personal stories always inspire students to know that just starting somewhere can lead to many different options as life moves forward.

A highlight was Hamilton Jet who brought along three apprentices including one former MGS student Jack Fitzgerald Carter. They each talked about their own interests and hobbies which led to apprenticeships in Marine Coatings and Fitting & Machining. Jack found it was an aircraft engineering course he was sent on while at MGS that set him on his pathway.

The afternoon was spent in a speed meet with Industry Training Organisations (ITOs), along with building industry companies, agricultural workers, landscape architects and others. There were 20 stands in all. We are grateful to many parents and MGS contacts involved in industry related fields who participated and gave inspiration to the students on the day.

Quote from student….."That was so inspiring, I never knew there were so many options."
