Year 7 & 8 Rehua Marae Visit

MGS —

On the 15 of March the Year 7 and 8 classes went to Rehua Marae where we got to experience the Powhiri process. When we got there, the karanga (call) began. While the lady was calling, we proceeded into the wharenui (meeting house) where we took off our shoes and sat down. Instead of hongi we needed to elbow each other instead, because of Covid 19. After the Powhiri process we went into the whare kai (dining hall) to have morning tea. The rest of the day was spent on different activities. There was flax weaving, rakau, pepeha, and pattern art. Our favourite was flax weaving. Going to Rehua Marae was an experience that we will never forget.
