3D Gingerbread Structures: Houses and Tourist Attractions

MGS —

We started off making...

...our houses with the gingerbread dough. We let it sit in the fridge for about 24 hours. The next day we took out the gingerbread and softened it to roll out and make the shapes. We cut out the pieces for the houses and baked them. Then we made royal icing, and decorated the walls, before assembled the sides into houses. We then added the finishing touches, and we took them home.

The week after that we started making our tourist attraction pieces. Some people did stadiums eg Wembley, others went for nature attractions like Huka Falls , or famous structures like the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben. There were a few challenges like having to assemble the structures. Assembling the pieces together took a lot of patience, because the icing also had to dry which meant having to wait a while to do anything else. The best icing colours were blue, red and green. The blue gave a pop of colour around the outside of the structures, and the red gave a bright decorative look. In the end the gingerbread pieces were well decorated with lollies and icing and tasted great once you completed it.
