Board of Trustees News
The Board of Trustees recently farewelled one of its longer serving trustees, Mr Al Fone. Al initially served 3 terms as a parent elected trustee but in his last term became a proprietor appointed trustee.
Al brought a very unique perspective to theBoard table as he ran a consultancy business as a trainer of school boards all over the country. His vast experience and his love for the Lord means that he will be sorely missed.
Al has commented that
"I have never seen a school like Middleton where trustees come in once a term to meet and pray with the staff. What a privilege! I also don’t know of any other board which has the wonderful relationship that we have with the staff. Very high levels of trust and respect. It’s a testament to the Christ-like character which permeates the school. Also, to see Christ’s character coming out in our students is such a blessing and something the board knows is in no small a testament to the love for the Lord of the school staff"
Al has likened the school to a beacon of righteousness shining out in a world which is becoming darker and darker. He urges us to stay strong in the Lord, willing to fight for His Word, and press in when the challenges come knowing that righteousness always prevails.
The Board is very pleased that the proprietor, The Christian Schools Trust, has appointed David Gillon, a former staff member and former Board staff trustee, as the proprietor trustee replacement for Al Fone. We welcome him (back) and look forward to Mr Gillon's contribution to the Board, knowing that the Lord will make him to be of great blessing to the governance of Middleton Grange School.
David accepted a teaching position at Middleton Grange School in 1979. He taught Science and Mathematics to 5th form pupils and, because he had past teaching experience as a teacher in primary schools, he was employed to provide support for pupils who required assistance in English and Social Studies.
In subsequent years David taught a variety of subjects including Drama, Scripture, Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physical Education. He also was the school's Career Advisor for a number of years and one of the school's Counsellors for a period.
In later years, David took on the roles of Head of Scripture, Assistant Head of Science and a Senior College Dean. As international pupil numbers grew, there was a need for a dean who could supervise the 150 plus international pupils. David was then appointed to the new position of Manager of International Services, eventually becoming the Assistant Director of the International College. He held this position until his retirement in 2014.
